Friday’s openings redux: Loves comes in many forms

Dan Webster

So, along with the three movies listed below, three more movies are opening in mainstream theaters. (The Magic Lantern continues screening "Lady Bird" and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri").

The additions to Friday's movie schedule are:

"Call Me By Your Name": Director Luca Guadagnino films James Ivory's adaptation of Andre Aciman's 1983-era novel about a 17-year-old boy's coming of age during a summer spent in northern Italy. Armie Hammer never looked better.

"Phantom Thread": Paul Thomas Anderson directs and Daniel Day Lewis stars in this tale of a middle-age fashion designer who falls for a younger woman, and then finds that love disrupts his orderly life. But isn't that the way of things?

"Mom and Dad": Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair star as the parents of a teen girl and her younger brother who must cope when mom and dad begin behaving … um, erratically? Two words: Nicolas Cage.

That's the list. So go, see a movie. And enjoy.
