Friday’s openings: The big ape returns

Dan Webster

It's been a while since the great ape known as Kong has played the big screen. But another version is, at this point, Friday's only major mainstream movie opening. The national release schedule looks like this:

"Kong: Skull Island": According to IMDB, "A team of explorers and soldiers travel to an uncharted island in the Pacific, unaware that they are crossing into the domain of monsters, including the mythic Kong." What, did no one see "The Lost World: Jurassic Park"?

For once the Magic Lantern is working ahead. Spokane's alternative theater lists two opening films for Friday:

"Kedi": Fresh off its screening at the Spokane International Film Festival, this documentary takes a look at the feral cats that roam the streets of Istanbul. No litter for these kitties.

"Emily": A young married couple's happiness is threatened when one undergoes a spiritual crisis. Whitworth filmmakers Ryan Graves and Kelly McCrillis will be on hand to intro their film during Friday and Saturday evening screenings.

As always, I'll update when the local information becomes official.
