Mi casa-brew, su casa-brew

Rick Bonino

Saturday is an opportunity for homebrewers from throughout the region to get together under the same roof.

Idaho Homebrewers of the Panhandle Society (IDHOPS) is hosting an Inland Northwest Home Brewers Conference from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Elk Point event center in Coeur d’Alene.

While everyone is welcome, the IDHOPS crew is particularly hoping to see their counterparts from Spokane’s Inland Brewers Unite (IBU) and Post Falls’ Warriors of the Rotating Tap (WORT).

“The overall goal is just to get the homebrew community together,” says IDHOPS’ James Hook. “A few of us go back and forth (between groups), but not too much.”

Elk Point, on Potlatch Hill overlooking Lake Coeur d’Alene, just got its pub license to sell beer and wine, he says. Beers will be on tap Saturday from Daft Badger, Mad Bomber, Selkirk Abbey and Wallace Brewing.

There will be speakers from the various homebrew clubs, and possibly some professional brewers as well.

Admission is $10, which includes your first two drink tickets. Food also will be available for sale, along with smokes from Bulldog Pipe & Cigar. Live music will be provided by Hanna Rebecca.

“It’s more a social gathering than a conference, but maybe we can turn it into a conference someday,” says Hook. “Hopefully it will turn into something we can do annually.”
