House parties

Rick Bonino

Brewers across the state again are getting ready to show off their stuff Saturday from noon to 5 for the sixth annual Washington Beer Open House.

It’s largely a West Side affair; at last count, 110 breweries had signed up, with only seven east of the Cascades on the list. Most of the local action is in the Valley, with Badass Backyard Brewing, English Setter and Twelve String participating along with Perry Street and Big Barn:

– Badass, usually open only on Saturdays from 4 to 8 p.m., will get things started early at noon. Check out the half-barrel brewing system and homespun taproom in a shop building adjacent to owner/brewer Charlene Honcik’s home.

– English Setter will offer tours, flavor-infused pours through a Randall, half-price appetizers with beer purchase, drawings for a growler fill, games and free popcorn (minors welcome until 4).

– Twelve String is celebrating Sour Saturday, with three sour barrel-aged beers on tap: a cognac barrel version with agave, another done with grapefruit and a lemon-accented one that was conditioned with lactobacillus and sweet cherries.

– On Green Bluff, Big Barn will do brewery tours on the hour from noon to 5; for $10 you get a taster flight with a souvenir 5-ounce glass and your first pint, with that glass included as well. Also look for hot dogs on the grill and a bonfire when it cools off.

– Perry Street observes the occasion with guided brewery tours at 2 and 4 p.m.

Those attending are encouraged to tweet about their day using the hashtag #WAbeerOH, and post pictures to the sponsoring Washington Beer Commission’s Facebook page.
