Friday’s openings: The girl who spoke out

Dan Webster

Since the week's mainstream movie openings haven't yet been announced, I'll go ahead and list what new releases the Magic Lantern will be offering:

"He Named Me Malala": David Guggenheim's documentary tells the story of Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who was shot for supporting schooling for girls — and whose recovery made headlines worldwide.

"Sicario" (offered second run): Denis Villeneuve's film about the U.S. war with the Mexican drug cartels avoids most of the Hollywood cliches and ends up feeling like a kick in the stomach. Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and especially Benicio del Toro are all excellent. Tough, tough but excellent movie.
