Tom Hardy: A ‘scary good’ actor

Dan Webster

While watching "The Martian," I saw a trailer for "The Revenant," the new movie by Mexican-born filmmaker — and reigning Oscar-winning director — Alejandro González Iñárritu. And the one thing that impressed me, beyond González Iñárritu's riveting camera work, was the mention of Tom Hardy.

If you watched George Miller's latest installment in his "Mad Max" series — "Mad Max: Fury Road" — you know who Hardy is. If you watched the final installment in Christopher Nolan's "Batman" trilogy — "The Dark Knight Rises" — you know who Hardy is. And I could go on.

Instead of that, I'm going to embed a YouTube video that purports to list Hardy's top 10 performances. I don't agree with the list, at least with the movie that the site Watchmojo.com chooses as its No. 1 (Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon make appropriate fun Michael Caine, Christian Bale and Hardy in their film "The Trip to Italy").

But as an opportunity to check out the range of roles that Hardy has played over the past decade, it's well worth the 10 minutes it takes to watch. So … enjoy.
