No tricks, just treats

Rick Bonino

Breweries around the area are welcoming Halloween with a variety of beer specials and activities. Among the attractions:

– No-Li gets a jump on things with a Thursday celebration starting at 5 p.m. featuring the last keg of Krumpkin cranberry/pumpkin ale, a single-keg Pumpkin-Spice Porter and the new Browne’s Addiction dry-hopped brown, Randall-infused with chocolate and orange peel – as well as food specials and pumpkin bowling.

– River City, which is debuting its winter seasonal Midnight Marmot imperial stout on Thursday, will be serving it Friday through a Randall filled with roasted pumpkin, cinnamon and allspice ($1 discount on all pints for those who dress up).

– Iron Goat’s Halloween Bash includes a costume party, and such beer offerings as both the regular and barrel-aged Punkid pumpkin ales, a “scary” Randall and $2 pints of Leaf Blower ISA.

– Pumpkin porters are in vogue in Spokane Valley. Hopped Up will be serving its new Pumpkin Patch Porter (tapped today at the tasting room) out of a roasted pumpkin on Friday, while Twelve String’s weekly cask offering starting Thursday is the Don’t Fret Porter conditioned with pumpkin and spices.

– In Post Falls on Friday, the highlight of Selkirk Abbey’s All Hallows Eve Party will be the 6 p.m. tapping of a cask of Guilt, the Belgian coffee porter, on rum-soaked oak chips. (Don’t dally; that one went fast at the second anniversary party this summer.)

– Big Barn, which closes its Green Bluff taproom for the season on Saturday, is having a Halloween night potluck along with a costume party, games, hot cider and beer including the return of the pumpkin ale and a honey ale, a fuller-flavored version of the regular honey lager made with ale yeast. If you’re participating in the potluck, last names A through P should bring a hot dish, Q through Z a salad or appetizer, to serve six to eight people.
