SpIFF opener miffs the government of Laos

Dan Webster

Less than 48 hours are left before opening night of the 2014 edition of the Spokane International Film Festival. The opening-night movie, "The Rocket," will play at 7 p.m. Thursday at AMC River Park Square. If you didn't have reason to purchase tickets before now, consider this: The film was banned in Laos, the very country in which it is set.

When was the last time you got a chance to see what essentially is a PG-13 movie that some officials consider too touchy to screen in their country?
