Check out the SpIFFy ‘Thing’ on Friday

Dan Webster

John W. Campbell Jr.'s short story "Who Goes There?" has been made into a movie three different times. The first was a cheesy but scary film from 1951, "The Thing from Another World." The second was John Carpenter's darker version from 1982. And the third, which actually is a prequel to Carpenter's film, was released in 2011.

It is Carpenter's version that will be featured at 9:30 Friday night at the Garland Theater. Sponsored by the Spokane International Film Festival, "The Thing" will be presented by Chase Ogden, an assistant visiting professor at eastern Washington University and a festival programmer. Tickets are $3.
