911 W. Garland Ave., Spokane, WA

From the figurative ashes of the short-lived, former Filt rises this small, no-frills but beer-savvy taproom in the Garland district. The white concrete and original art from the Filt days have been replaced by wood-paneled walls for a lodge-type feel, and a buffalo head hanging behind the bar (complete with Rainier hat) flanked by a pair of deer trophies. In addition to the stools at the long, L-shaped bar, there's rail seating at the front window and a few low tables along the opposite wall, which is decorated with a mural of Monroe Street from downtown to Garland. Owner Tyler Riggs (who formerly tended bar down the street at Bon Bon) fills his 12 taps with noteworthy offerings from such cutting-edge regional-and-beyond breweries as Crux, Pfriem, Dogfish Head, Epic, Port, Lost Abbey, Alesmith and Alpine, along with an assortment of locals and a designated macro handle (recently Labatt's Blue); also ask about the bottled cellar club, with its own special series of delights. The low-key neighborhood vibe is nurtured by resident bar dog Woodrow, who makes sure everyone feels at home. (8/16)
