The Filling Station on 5th

501 Sherman Ave., Coeur d'Alene, ID

The Filling Station on 5th has gotten fuller, doubling its beer and cider taps to 50 handles (plus four more for kombucha and one for root beer) in March 2017. The new taps are up front in the restaurant portion of the building at Fifth and Sherman that the Filling Station shares with Collective Kitchen; all the beers and the full food menu are served both there and in the cozy, original bar in the back, which has seating for 22 people at barstools and tables (the beers also are available at the neighboring Studio 107 wine bar and art gallery). The additional handles allow for six local beers to pour at all times (including Twelve String and Laughing Dog on a regular basis) along with three or four sours and three ciders. As well as glass pours in-house, growlers are available for takeout including 16-ounce “Grinnies”; you can join the Grinnie Club for $60 and get six to go in a handmade wooden carrier, then receive six for the price of five after that. Daily specials include Macho Nacho Monday, Street Taco Tuesday, Wing Wednesday, Chicago Dog Thursday, Pound (of clams) & a Pint Friday and Chef's Choice on Saturday; on Sunday, service industry workers get 20 percent off their tab. The regular food menu features an array of small plates, salads, sandwiches and entrees (including a half-dozen "adult" versions of mac & cheese), plus all-day breakfast. (3/2017)
