Durkin's Liquor Bar
421 W. Main Ave., Spokane, WA
In addition to a unique cocktail menu of classic and contemporary recipes, Durkin’s Liquor Bar offers 24 beer taps between its two street-level and basement bars (20 and four, respectively). The upstairs bar features a healthy selection of regional beers, with local breweries Iron Goat, Laughing Dog and Perry Street among the 15 regular taps. And even if you’re downstairs, you can still order beer and food from the main level.
Named after legendary liquor tycoon Jimmie Durkin, Durkin’s downstairs bar has a speakeasy vibe with red leather couches, exposed brick walls and vintage-inspired wallpaper. Meanwhile, the main level feels like a cross between a diner and a bar with a hexagon-tile floor, swivel stools, leather booths and a visible kitchen.
The menu features upscale comfort food with sandwiches, burgers and unique small plates, as well as seasonal offerings of fish and butcher’s cut.
Durkin’s periodically hosts beer and wine dinners, and plans to host a whiskey-pairing dinner in the future. The downstairs bar features music about once a month. Downstairs bar hours are Thursday, 4-11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m.-1 a.m.
