Capone's Pub & Grill (CDA)
751 N. 4th St., Coeur d'Alene, ID
The local scene took a big step forward in 1991 when Tom and Teresa Capone bought an old dive in midtown Coeur d’Alene and turned it into the town’s first craft beer bar. Seven expansions later – which have begun to threaten the Capone’s motto of “more taps than tables” – it’s still the spot of choice for those favoring a more nostalgic sports-bar atmosphere. Along with TVs, there’s sports, beer and music memorabilia everywhere – from the gloves, hats and tap handles hanging from the ceiling, to the beer labels, baseball cards and game and concert tickets under the laminated bar and table tops – much of it involving Tom’s beloved Boston Red Sox (there’s a replica of the Fenway scoreboard behind the bar) and Grateful Dead. The 41 revolving taps, including a cask handle, pour a wide range of local and regional beers, with discount pricing on two house offerings, a pilsner and India pale lager provided by Orlison. The food menu features an assortment of appetizers, pizzas and sandwiches on house-baked bread.
