Friday’s openings: Heroes, honor and horror

A memory of war, a bit of gentlemanly violence and an update on a classic horror story are on Friday's movie menu, according to the national release schedule. The usual suspects are:

"The Last Full Measure": Based on a true story, a number of veterans — and one government bureaucrat with conviction — strive to make sure a soldier gets honored posthumously for actions taken during the Vietnam War. Who wants to be an airborne ranger …

"The Gentlemen": Returning to the same genre that first brought him fame, Guy Ritchie, who gave us "Snatch" and "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," wrote and directed this look at a British drug lord and his attempts to sell his business. Oy.

"The Turning": A young woman is hired as a governess to an orphaned brother and sister. Sinister things then occur, as anyone who has read "The Turn of the Screw" will know.

That's all for the moment. As usual, I'll update when the area theaters finalize their bookings.
