Your trip on Tremors!

CONTEST CLOSED!! We'll announce results shortly. When Tremors opened at Silverwood Theme Park 14 years ago, it was seriously fast. At speeds exceeding 65 mph, it outzipped existing coasters like the Timber Terror and the Corkscrew, making it a definite must-ride for fans of high-speed fun. Since then, Aftershock has passed it in terms of sheer speed and g-force, but Tremors still remains a favorite attraction for any trip to Silverwood Theme Park. It’s the only coaster that goes underground and has its own gift shop. And it’s also the only coaster where you can get a photo of yourself aboard – right around one bend, a camera will snap your photo and capture forever your expression – perhaps it’s sheer terror, perhaps you’re screaming in terror or happiness. Maybe you’re squeezing your eyes tight trying to keep your lunch down. Or maybe you’ve taken the effort to do an extra creative pose. Whatever the case, we want to see it! From now until Aug. 1, Spokane 7 and Silverwood Theme Park are inviting people to share their favorite Tremors photos and memories. If you have multiple ones taken over the year, send them along too! We also would love to hear your stories! Even if you don't have a photo of you aboard the coaster, share your experiences, along with a photo of you from anywhere in the park. What was your first ride like? What has been your best experience? Have you hit the hundred-ride mark? Did you make a goofy face? How did you talk the rest of your family into riding? Have you ridden it backwards at Scarywood? To thank everyone for their support of Tremors over the years, Silverwood Theme Park is offering some great prizes. The top essay or photo will receive a season pass to use all through 2015. The second-place winner will receive a four-pack day pass, so themselves and three guests can come and enjoy the park – especially Tremors – any one day in the 2014 season. • 2nd Place Photo! My 92 year-old grandmother insisted she wanted to ride Tremors and couldn't be convinced otherwise. She had a great time, but said once was enough after the ride. She kept this photo on display for the following 8 years.

  • As we approached the height sign for Tremors both the girls ran up to it and decided they we tall enough to go on this ride, even though they didn't know what it was. I tried to warn them it was a big coaster and too scary for me to ride which only made them want to ride it more. The girls hopped in still excited and all smiles that they persuaded the adults to let them have their way. The coaster took off and I could hear the screams. Within a few minutes they were back again pale and speechless, they slowly got out and my daughter said, "why did you let me go on that?". They both said "we are never going on that ride again!". Later that week I heard her telling one of her friends, I went on Tremors at Silverwood, it was so cool!".

  • First time on Tremors - September 9, 2009. This was the first time I took my son on Tremors, and I think his face, and my hair, stayed that way for almost the rest of the day. As you can see, we had no idea where the camera was, unlike the very photogenic, and posed people behind us. On our next visit the following year I remembered two things: a hair tie, and where the camera was. Although my son was still making the same face on our second ride during our next visit, he really did love it, and had bragging rights with his friends for going on "Tremors!"

  • Here's the picture that went with my story yesterday. This was Scout day. After eating lunch, my 2 boys and I conjured up this idea, then we smuggled the props onto the ride (certainly they would have prohibited them). We laugh often at the pictures. It was a fun family time. It was Fall of 2001.

  • Circa about 2006?: My son,14 and wearing his I Got (Cork) Screwed t-shirt, and his cousin, 26, went on Tremors. My son predicted his fearless, roller-coaster buff of a cousin would be entertaining and thus recorded him with his flip-phone. This audio recording is not safe for sharing, but is a gem and family treasure.

  • Our son begged us to take him on Tremors three years ago, even though we warned him he may not like it since he hadn't been on any coasters larger than the Tiny Toot. He said his tummy ended up not liking it at all. We're going to try again this year.
