When the Persian king Xerxes comes to punish Greece with his million-man army, a small troop of Spartans led by King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) heads them off at Thermopylae. Though he plays fast and loose with history, director Zack Snyder brings Frank Miller's graphic novel to the big screen without losing an ounce of the comic format's immediacy and power.
