August Workshops at Emerge
Popping and Locking with Shanner Escalanti: A four part workshop focusing on the basics of popping and hip-hop choreography leading up to a performance during Emerge’s first annual Print-fest on August 12. Ages 13 and older, August 2-3 and 9-10, 6–9 p.m. Free, sponsored by the CDA Arts Commission; Watercolor and Ink with Jill McFarlane: Do you like to find shapes in the clouds? Using a similar concept students will free paint a shape with watercolor and then draw with ink pens the images they see in the paint, adding outlines, texture, and patterns. A two part workshop. Ages seven and older, August 1-2, 10 a.m.–noon. $45; Our Scene Begins Theater Workshop with Chris Hansen: In this course students will learn skills for memorizing text, character development, and how to perform with other students in an afternoon of scenes from classics to contemporary plays. Ages seven and older, Aug. 7-10, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. $160; Iconic Artists with Tarin Leach: Students will create works of art using techniques and ideas inspired by groundbreaking artists. Aug. 14– Jackson Pollock, 15– Yayoi Kusama, 16– Joseph Kosuth, 17– Keith Haring, 3-6 p.m. Ages six and older, $20 per class or $75 for all four; Nature Inspired Weaving with Sue Tye: Learn simple weaving techniques in this fun class. Varied weaving threads in colors and textures are provided so all that’s needed is your imagination. Students will weave their own vibrant wall hanging. No experience is needed. Ages 10 and older, Aug. 22-23, 10 a.m.–noon. Free, sponsored by the CDA Arts Commission; and Textile Moths with Lori Walin: Join us in the Emerge studio to create soft-sculpture moths. Students will use multiple forms of media focusing on fabric, to create these furry insect friends. Inspired by the work of artist Yumi Okita, no experience is needed. A two part workshop.
