North Idaho: Mountain Bike in Sherwood Forest

August 9, 2014

Distance: About 10-15 miles round-trip Difficulty: This ride is for intermediate mountain bikers with some past experience. Family Friendly? Hardy youth 12 years and older with mountain biking experience will enjoy this ride. Hike Description: ICL, the Kaniksu Land Trust and the Pend Oreille Pedalers have teamed up to co-host a mountain bike ride on the recently protected Sherwood Forest trail, just west of Sandpoint. This fantastic ride takes you on rolling single track trails. Lots of “not-too-difficult” climbs, twists and turns, and super fun downhills await the energetic biker. Participants will be rewarded with glimpses of the Pend Oreille River as you travel up and down through a pretty forest with a couple of bridged stream crossings. This private land was permanently protected from development by a conservation easement the owners placed on the land with help from the Kaniksu Land Trust. The trails are open to the public for nonmotorized recreation. At a few much-needed water breaks, Eric Grace from the land trust will explain how the land was protected and opened to the public. He’ll also let bikers know about the land trust’s exciting future plans to obtain additional acreage adjacent to the Sherwood Forest property. Jim Mellen from the Pend Oreille Pedalers will talk about his group’s trail maintenance work and future plans. - See more at:
