The 79th annual Spokane Junior Livestock Show takes place May 7-11 with unique opportunities for visitors to learn about farming and ranching, visit booths with interactive hands-on exhibits and watch youth from the area showcase their steers, goats, pigs and lambs. An animal auction on Saturday and Sunday, also gives attendees the chance to purchase quality, locally raised meat directly from FFA and 4-H youth. Fun educational activities will be available at the “Farm Fair” on Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The Farm Fair will be located in the Agricultural Complex in building AG A. The Farm Fair aims to introduce children to agriculture business (the largest industry in Washington State) through fun, interactive exhibits. Exhibit topics will include dairy, wheat, 4-H, bees, rabbits and chickens, cattle, wool, goats and FFA. The Farm Fair is sponsored by the Northwest Natural Resources Institute (NNRI), an affiliate of Greater Spokane Incorporated. Over 1,000 fourth and fifth grade students are signed up to tour the Farm Fair, which is also open to the public. Visitors will learn about the welfare of animals, how important agriculture is to the state‚Äôs economy and about the by-products that come from animals and crops. In addition to the educational opportunities, the Spokane Junior Livestock Show is also a great venue for those who appreciate quality farm-raised meat. Over 500 animals raised by FFA and 4-H agriculture youth will be for sale by auction on Saturday and Sunday. The sale of goats and hogs will be held on Saturday starting at 8 a.m. Beef steers and lambs will be sold on Sunday starting at 9 a.m. Buyers at the animal auction do not need to transport their animal to the butcher, as several butcher shops participate in the event and can make arrangements to transport the animal from the sale to the butcher shop.
