Thanks for the Memory: Spokane Songbirds Sing A Tribute to Mildred Bailey
An evening of song and music featuring local female musicians. Featured jazz vocalists Julia Keefe and Heather Villa, together with local group Mama Doll and the Mukogawa Women’s Ensemble are scheduled to perform. The event will highlight local participation in National and International Jazz Appreciation Month, with proceeds from the show supporting the work of the Holy Names Music Center (HNMC) in Spokane. Jazz legend Mildred Rinker Bailey, a member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, was raised in Spokane, where her brother Alton Rinker played in a local band with Bing Crosby. Al Rinker and Bing Crosby later followed Mildred to Los Angeles, and Crosby later credited Mildred with helping launch his own successful singing career.
