23rd annual event runs April 11-13 in various locations. Friday shows at Eastern Washington University, Music Building Auditorium: noon, James Reid, a former artist on NPR’s Performance Today, he is a nationally acclaimed performer with eight CDs to his name, including music of Latin composers Abel Carlevaro and Maximo Pujol. He is the founder of the Northwest Guitar Festival and the director of the guitar program at the University of Idaho, free. 2 p.m., 2014 Competition Semi-Final, showcasing the 19 up and coming guitarists representing six states, free. 7:30 p.m., Michael Partington is a guitarist of international reknown and avid commissioner of new music. He has released six CDs and directs the guitar program at the University of Washington, $20. Saturday show at Spokane Falls Community College, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive: 3 p.m., Northwest Guitar Festival competition finals, free; 7:30 p.m., Mak Grgic, 26-year-old virtuoso, this Serbian player has been invited to numerous venues worldwide and recently took first prize at the guitar competition “Luigi Mozzani” in Italy, $20. Sunday shows at Holy Names Music Center, McNally Hall, 3910 W. Custer Drive: 1 p.m., David Feingold, guitar professor at Western Washington University, which holds the only Guitar Studies program in the state, is a composer and performer of classical and jazz guitar, $20; 4 p.m., Giacomo Fiore, a modern music advocate, he has performed and premiered new compositions around the world. Hid concert closes out the Northwest Guitar Festival, and it will bring an eclectic combination of old and new on both classical and electric guitar, $20.
