David Douglas was a Scottish naturalist who did much of his best work in the Pacific Northwest, where his contacts with local fur traders and tribal families resulted in key information about our native landscape. Douglas met with his demise in a spectacular and mysterious manner while on the big island of Hawaii, but he had several close calls in our region as well. This slide presentation will be presented by Jack Nisbet, author of “David Douglas: A Maturalist at Work,” an illustrated exploration across two centuries in the Pacific Northwest.
