The speaker for the next meeting of The Inland Empire Gardeners will be Northwest gardening guru, author, TV personality and seed company owner Ed Hume. His talk is entitled “Garden Wisdom: Lessons Learned from 60 Years of Gardening.” Ed Hume gave his first public talk in 1955 and this will be his last talk in Spokane. Describing Ed as founder of Ed Hume Seeds doesn’t come close to doing him justice. He’s a genuinely kind, generous person who has spread his knowledge of gardening all around the world. Come get great advice and meet the legend! 60 years in the horticultural business, including the last 50 years plus years in television, radio, newspaper and magazine writing and lecturing. “Gardening in America,” his TV show was the longest running TV gardening show in the world with the same host. He had visited the White House on two occasions, Jefferson’s Monticello, Washington’s place at Mount Vernon, and many other famous places, gardens and historical points of interest. Shows aired in Japan and nationwide to approximately 50 million households here in the United States. Though not officially retired, at 82, he’s still a busy guy.
