A national recitation contest created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. The program is designed to encourage youth to engage with poetry through memorization and recitation and is implemented at the classroom level. The Poetry Out Loud program for the Eastern Washington region is overseen by Get Lit! Programs at Eastern Washington University. Students from local area high schools will recite their poems in front of an audience and a panel of judges. Two students from the region with the highest scores will get the chance to go to State Finals in Tacoma in March and, ultimately, to the National Finals in Washington D.C., where one student will be crowned National Champion.
