Spokane Symphony Classics 1: Virtuosity Required
Sept. 21-22. The first Classics concert of the 2013-14 season under the baton of Music Director Eckart Preu. Ilya Kaler, the triple prize winner who has been compared to Heifetz and Perlman, will perform Barber’s exquisitely difficult Violin Concerto. Other music selections include Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra. A pre-concert talk about the music will be held in the hall one hour before each performance. Shows on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Opening Night Gala featuring a champagne reception, dinner and auction at the Spokane Club will be held Saturday, 5-7 p.m. with black tie optional.
