The featured work is J.S. Bach’s Cantata No. 10, “Meine Seel erhebt den Herren” arranged for solo organ by Nelson himself in the style of Franz Liszt. The text of the cantata is the Magnificat, “My Soul Doth Magnify the Lord” the song of Mary recorded in the Gospel of Luke and often used during Advent. His transcription includes the opening choral movement and a soprano aria. Other items on the program will expand on the Magnificat theme. In addition, he will play several pieces of the liturgically-based music of Max Reger, a noted post-Romantic composer.
