Discussion, questions and answers and book signing of “Fobbit” is the story of Forward Operating Base Triumph in Baghdad, where a combat-avoiding staff sergeant named Chance Gooding spends his time composing press releases that spin grim events into statements more palatable to the public, based on David’s own experiences serving in Iraq. Abrams served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, and was deployed to Iraq in 2005 as part of a public affairs team. He was named the Department of Defense’s Military Journalist of the Year in 1994 and received several other military commendations. His stories have appeared in “Esquire,” “Narrative,” and other literary magazines. He lives in Butte, Montana.
