“The Master”
Jan. 10-12. A 2012 American drama film starring Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, and Laura Dern. The film’s central relationship - and riddle - concerns a troubled World War II vet named Freddie Quell (Phoenix) who’s struggling to adjust to a post-war society and a charismatic sect leader named Lancaster Dodd (Hoffman), whose friends and followers call him Master. He’s the leader of a philosophical movement known as “The Cause” who sees something in Quell and accepts him into the movement. Quell takes a liking to “The Cause” and begins traveling with Dodd along the East Coast to spread the teachings. Shows nightly at 7:30 p.m. Global Cinema Cafe series.
