SPS Festival of the Arts
Nov. 19-20. Visual and performing arts students from Ferris, Lewis and Clark, North Central, Rogers and Shadle Park participate in this two-day celebration of the arts. Monday, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (lunch is from 12:15-1:30 p.m.) The honor band, orchestra and choir rehearse at the INB Performing Arts Center and the Convention Center. This involves about 275 students from the five comprehensive high schools. Guest clinicians: Band - Alan Gemberling - music professor at the University of Idaho Orchestra - Vern Windham - recently retired conductor of the Spokane Youth Orchestra and KPBX DJ Choir - Timothy Fitzpatrick - music professor at Western Washington University Tuesday, 8:30 a.m.-2:35 p.m. (lunch is from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m.) The honor band, orchestra and choir rehearse at the INB and Convention Center; 3:10-4:15 p.m., Rehearsal of the finale with all three groups together. Tuesday, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. (lunch is from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m.) Visual art and photography students attend interactive clinics at the Convention Center, where they learn new techniques and get the chance to create their own artwork based on the new learning. The guest clinicians are: Visual Art - Erik Brooks - Author and illustrator from the Methow Valley Photography - Craig Sweat - Photographer and owner of the Craig Sweat Studios in Spokane Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., Festival of the Arts concert at the INB, featuring the honor band, orchestra and choir. Admission is free and open to the public.
