Welcome Home, a Veterans Day Celebration
Sponsored by Honor Point Military and Aerospace Museum, the City of Spokane and Spokane Airports. The ceremony will be held inside the original hangar built in the mid-1920s. Col. Brian Newberry, USAF, wing commander Fairchild Air Force Base, and Spokane Mayor David Condon will be featured speakers. The Military Order of the Purple Heart will be specially recognized as will regional and local Purple Heart recipients. Music will be provided by the Mt. Spokane Marching Band and the Brass Quintet of the Spokane Symphony. The ceremony will conclude with a benediction for fallen comrades by the base Chaplain and the playing of “Taps.” Several vintage aircraft will be on display including the only operational and flying B-25 bomber in existence with an arrival at 9 a.m., weather permitting; a C-3B Stearman, an N-2S3 Navy Stearman, a 1927 Travel Air 4000 and a couple of WWII Army vehicles. The American Red Cross will have a refreshment vehicle. The gates immediately to the west of the hangar will open at noon so that attendees can view static displays, the proposed improvements to the airport and historic photographs of Felts Field. The formal program will begin promptly at 1 p.m. with military marches, period music and the presentation of the colors and pledge of allegiance; the program will conclude at 2 p.m., with the gates open until 4 p.m.
