Beethoven Performances

Kevin Hekmatpanah, associate professor of music at Gonzaga, and Rajung Yang, assistant professor of music at University of Idaho, will jointly present Beethoven’s Complete Sonatas and Variations for Cello and Piano. Hekmatpanah is an acclaimed cellist who has made more than 120 solo concerto appearances both nationally and internationally. He has released a CD of romantic cello sonatas, and has won many awards at competitions such as the Beethoven Club Young Artists Competition and the Virginia Chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters Competition. A professor at Gonzaga since 1994, Hekmatpanah directs the Gonzaga Symphony Orchestra. Yang moved to the United States from Seoul, Korea in 2003 to continue her graduate studies in piano at the University of Michigan. She earned a debut concert at Carnegie Hall after winning the top prize at both the Ibla Grand Prize Competition and Bartok-Kabalevsky-Prokofiev Competitions in Italy. Yang has been a professor at University of Idaho since 2010 and teaches collaborative piano. Two performances, Oct. 18 and Nov. 7, both at 7 p.m. Open to the public.
