“The Crazy Cool of Nellie McKay”

She has been heard on Fresh Air with Terry Gross, NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts and A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. Presented by Spokane Public Radio. Gaily skipping from one genre to the next without being pigeon-holed to any one of them, Nellie McKay is one of the most captivating musical artists performing today. A singer, songwriter, comedienne, actor, pianist, and ukulele player to boot, 29-year-old McKay has released five albums since 2004, each a sharp left-turn from her previous. Whether it’s a tribute to Doris Day in her highly-acclaimed Normal As Blueberry Pie, under the tutelage of rocker David Byrne, or a tune from her recent musical I Want to Live, McKay’s songs have a knack for beckoning fans in with sly innuendos, slapstick wit, and serious musicality.
