Authors Alexis Smith and Evan P. Schneider
Portland novelists include Smith, author of “Glaciers,” which features a day in the life of Isabel, a 20-something who works with damaged books in the basement of a library. Isabel’s thoughts revolve around the disappearance of glaciers she knew as a young girl in Alaska. Schneider is founding editor of Boneshaker, a magazine about bicycles, and reads from his novel, “A Simple Machine Like the Lever,” now in its second printing, in which Nick and his bicycle pedal hopefully through a recession-battered existence.
