Special Olympics Washington Spring Games
May 4-5. Spectators welcome to support over 650 athletes, 90 coaches and 200 volunteers. Gold medal winners will advance to Summer Games held at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma June 1-3. On Friday evening, Special Olympics athletes will have opportunity to participate in an Healthy Athletes venue, which will start at 3:15 p.m. at Center Place, 2426 N. Discovery Place in Spokane Valley. During Healthy Athletes, Special Olympics athletes will be fitted with shoes donated by Kyle and Nate Kinghorn, owners of Runner’s Soul in Spokane, receive toothbrushes donated by local dentists and have their blood pressure checked. Opening Ceremonies will start at 7:00 p.m., at Center Place, and will include guest speakers, an introduction of the 60 plus Special Olympics teams from Eastern Washington, lighting of the Olympic cauldron and entertainment. Saturday will start at 8 a.m. with athletes competing at multiple venues throughout the day and end at 5 p.m. Aquatics, Athletics, Power Lifting events will take place at Eastern Washington University. Cycling competition will take place at Cheney High School, at 460 N. Sixth in Cheney.
