WSU ElectroAcoustic Concert
The world premiere of “Kettle Brew” for percussion and soundscape will highlight the concert. Part of WSU’s annual Festival of Contemporary Art Music. The work, a collaboration between faculty member David Jarvis and festival guest composer Alex Shapiro, will be performed by Jarvis. Other music will include: recently deceased composer Jonathan Harvey’s haunting “Mortuos Plango, Vivos Voco,” a meditative lament combining sounds from a cathedral bell and the childhood voice of the composer’s son; Mark Applebaum’s humorous and self-conscious “Pre-Composition,” which draws all of its sounds from the composer’s voice; and part three of Paul Rudy’s “Kuxan suum,” from his nine-album saga “2012 Stories.” “Mortuos Plango, Vivos Voco” and “Pre-Composition” will be presented in their original eight-channel surround sound format.
