Literature and legality: two more openings

Dan Webster

At least two other movies will open locally on Friday (though both will have late screenings tonight):

"If Beale Street Could Talk": Barry Jenkins ("Moonlight") adapts the 1974 James Baldwin novel of the same title about a young black couple living in 1970s New York. The film, by the way, made a number of critical Top 10 lists.

"On the Basis of Sex": Felicity Jones stars as U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in this biopic about Ginsburg's struggle to become a lawyer when women were still a distinct minority in the law.

That's the lot. Slowly, as usually, the more critically acclaimed films are opening in the area. So go, see one of them. And enjoy.
