Downdraft blows back in

Rick Bonino

Downdraft Brewing reopens tomorrow under new ownership.

The Post Falls brewery had closed Nov. 18 after three years of operation. New owners Ginger and Josh Cantamessa bought the business as of Dec. 26.

"We didn't want to see it go," says Ginger, a longtime customer who worked as a server in the taproom for a couple of months before the closure. "It's a great location with good people."

Downdraft will be open tomorrow from 3 to 8 p.m. with several beers from the previous inventory including Anonymous Amber and the Third Channel, Seltice SMaSH, India Rad Red and Habanero Mango IPAs. There also will be guest taps of two darker beers from nearby Selkirk Abbey, Guilt imperial coffee porter and Northern Cross Stout.

Regular hours will be Tuesday through Friday from 3 to 8 and Saturday from 2 to 8.

Ginger Cantamessa is the brewer in the family. She started homebrewing about 10 years ago, but hasn't brewed for the past five years or so. "I really wanted to get back into it," she says.

Along with possible tweaks to previous recipes, she's looking forward to several new ones. "I want to experiment with all kinds of different styles," she says. "I enjoy a broad spectrum of beer."

She and Josh plan to be around the brewery at all times to create a consistent experience for customers. "We want to have a good product, and good customer service," she says. "Those are our goals for Downdraft."
