Craft Beer Week: The Weekend

The end of Spokane (and American) Craft Beer Week is in sight, but not before several more opportunities to indulge this weekend:

TODAY

– Big Barn celebrates Armed Forces Day with $1 hot dogs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., plus $3 pints and $8 growler fills for members of the military; and owner/brewer Craig Deitz visits the North Spokane Total Wine from 3 to 5 for a Drink Local: Meet Your Craft Brewer event ($10 for beer samples, pizza and a discount growler fill coupon).

– Selkirk Abbey releases this year's barrel-aged Guilt imperial Belgian-style porter, and offers cigar pairings from Bulldog Pipe & Cigar for it and three other beers – 12˚ Belgian strong dark ale, Selkirk Grace Scottish ale and Infidel IPA – from 1 to 8 along with the Meltz gourmet grilled cheese truck.   

– Sorry, the Red, White & No-Li small-batch festival is sold out (though tickets for their next one go on sale today).

– Hopped Up taps a Creme Brulee Stout, with the Mustard's Last Stand sausage and hot dog truck arriving at 3 and live music by Wyatt Wood at 7; get an $8 growler fill with a pint purchase. 

– Twelve String has a release party for its Double Drop D Stout, accompanied by homemade chocolate brownies (while they last).

– Lager specialist Orlison, which has been experimenting with ales, is pouring 10 new small-batch versions from 2 to 9.

– The results of Bellwether's Brewers Showdown homebrewers' contest will be announced around 5, with the winner of the public vote getting to brew a batch on the house system.

New Boundary and 238 are each tapping their Indecent Chipotle Lime IPA collaboration.

– Perry Street is offering 20-ounce $5 pours of its Kolsch, Idaho 7 single hop pale, IPL, IPA and Doma Chronic Porter.

– Honey Blonde is the daily special at Black Label ($4 pints), with live music by Dylan Hathaway at 7. 

– Huckleberry's hosts a sour beer tasting from 2 to 4 ($5 for a flight of five samplers).

– The Area 51 taphouses at both the downtown and North Side Onion Bar & Grill are holding a local IPA competition all week, with voting on blind taste-test samplers of entries by Bellwether, Big Barn, Orlison, Perry Street, River City, Waddell’s, Wallace and Whistle Punk.

– Deschutes is featured in a tap takeover from 3 to 6 at The Blackbird, including the new Pinot Sauve wine barrel-aged Belgian-style ale, 2014 Abyss imperial stout, 2014 Black Butte XXVI imperial porter and the lemon-accented Hop Slice session IPA.

– Manito Tap House is pouring a 2015 Firestone Walker Sour Opal

– Goose Island's Bourbon County Stout is the daily special at Republic Pi.

– Steady Flow Growler House (which is offering $1 off pints and $2 off fills today for active/guard/reserve service members) and Waddell’s Brewpub (which has a special beer-infused fresh sheet menu) are doing local tap takeovers all week, along with weeklong beer specials at Laughing DogBlack Label and the Steam Plant plus $8 growler fills at Bennidito's Brewpub.

 

SUNDAY

– New Boundary's Pints 4 Paws 5K Dog Jog at 11 a.m. benefits SpokAnimal ($35 entry fee; walkers and well-behaved, vaccinated dogs welcome).

– Bellwether hosts a community potluck from noon to 2, featuring beer specials and Young Buck brewer Cameron Johnson on hand with his Orange Creamsicle cream ale.

– Big Barn's first concert of the season features the band Big Red Barn from 2 to 5 p.m., with the Mac Daddy's food truck on hand and a visit from local maltster Joel Williamson of Palouse Pint from 3 to 6.

– Republic Brewing's Taste of Republic brewer's dinner at 7 features food from six local restaurants paired with the house beers ($40 per person; call 509-775-2700 for availability).
