Alias AleSmith

Rick Bonino

One of San Diego’s most acclaimed breweries makes its Spokane debut today.

Eight AleSmith beers will be featured in a tap takeover starting today at 3 p.m. at Pints Alehouse, including:

– The light, moderately hoppy X Extra Pale (5.3 percent alcohol by volume, 35 International Bitterness Units).

– Bigger, balanced Alesmith IPA (7.3, 73).

– Darkly fruity, lightly smoky Wee Heavy Scotch (10, 26).

– The burly Speedway Stout (12, 70), dosed with locally roasted coffee.

– A similarly beefy Old Numbskull Barleywine (11, 96).

– Lil' Devil (5.8, 24), an unfiltered Belgian-style pale with ground coriander and orange peel.

– Horny Devil (10, 25), a big, Belgian-style golden ale brewed with coriander and candi sugar.

– Rich, fruity, spicy Grand Cru Quad (10, 17).

Both bottles and draft also are scheduled for delivery to Nectar Wine and Beer this week, and selections should start showing up soon at such specialty locations as Huckleberry’s, Rocket Market, Manito Tap House and The Blackbird.

Founded in 1995, AleSmith has won 17 medals at the Great American Beer Festival, including Small Brewing Company of the Year in 2008, and nine more in World Beer Cup competition. It earned RateBeer.com’s Best Brewery award three times, based on user reviews, and finished second last year.
