UPDATE SUNDAY 3/6

– Trickster's JuiceBox has lost its Sweet 16 round in the Brewing News' National IPA Championships to Barley Brown's Pallet Jack, the 2013 champion.

It’s time for the annual Pink Boots brew by women across the world, and this year a local brewer is taking part.

Today kicks off the Pink Boots Society’s Big Brew Day, part of the third annual International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day honoring International Women’s Day on Tuesday.

Badass Backyard’s Charlene Honcik will join in on Monday, since she’s busy today with her Ale Trail launch party (which also is doubling as her father Ed’s 65th birthday celebration).

Honcik will be doing her first gose (a tart, salty unfiltered wheat beer), the day’s designated recipe. We’ll let you know when it’s ready to drink.

– Speaking of gose, Iron Goat is teaming up with Everybody’s Brewing from White Salmon (which happens to be brewery of the month at Nectar Wine and Beer) to brew one for the Washington Beer Commission’s inaugural Collaboration Festival in Seattle on April 22-23.

The other Eastern Washington participant is Yakima’s Bale Breaker, which is doing an India pale lager with Seattle-based Reuben’s Brews. Look for an upcoming Bale Breaker/Iron Goat collaboration to be pouring in Spokane for Craft Beer Week in May.

– Trickster’s tart Berliner Weisse will spend some time in barrels before its release, but the brewery is shooting for an April 1 launch date for its first two bottled beers, the JuiceBox and Hops on Parade IPAs.

JuiceBox, by the way, still is alive in the Brewing News’ National IPA Championships, but facing a stiff challenge this weekend from Barley Brown’s Pallet Jack; we should have those results sometime tomorrow.

– Mad Bomber now has an in-house food menu in cooperation with nearby Northwest Pizza Co., with a variety of offerings (sandwiches, salad, wings, etc.) available for under $10 plus delivery.

– The Twisp River Pub and brewery is reeling from an early-morning fire last Monday that severely damaged the rear of the structure and resulted in smoke and water damage throughout. Repairs are expected to take several months.

– Finally, the Hop Shop may have closed last weekend after losing its lease, but it hasn’t surrendered. Supporters have started a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $100,000 toward reopening the business in a new location.
