Beers on the beach

Rick Bonino

Sandpoint’s Beerfest returns for its third year Saturday with offerings from a dozen mostly regional breweries and cideries on the lawn at Trinity at City Beach, on the scenic shore of Lake Pend Oreille.

There’s no admission charge for the event, which runs from noon to 5 p.m.  A souvenir pint glass costs $6 and drink tokens are $2 each, or six for $10; you get a 4-ounce taste for one token, a full pour for three.

A token also is good for bottled water or MickDuff’s root beer for kids and designated drivers. Children accompanied by a legal guardian are allowed, but dogs need to stay at home.

Participating breweries include San Diego’s Ballast Point along with locals Downdraft, Laughing Dog, Mad Bomber, MickDuff's, Orlison, Post Falls Brewing, River City, Slate Creek, Twelve String and Waddell’s, plus Summit Cider.

All will be under the big tent, with several other pop-up tents nearby to guard against nasty weather (the forecast calls for thunderstorms).

Trinity will have food for sale, and live tunes will be provided by Still Tipsy and the Hangovers.

And for those who get a bit too tipsy, Bonner Cab is offering free taxi rides within a 10-mile radius from 3 to 5:15 p.m.
