Catching up with more news from the past week in local craft beer:

– Things are growing on Green Bluff at 238 Brewing (where the much-anticipated peach hefeweizen made with local fruit goes on tap today).

Owner/brewer Mike Beckman has acquired a pair of two-barrel fermenters for double-batching off his one-barrel brewhouse, as an interim step to increase production as he works toward an eventual four-barrel system.

Beckman also created a six-tap beer trailer, devised for his daughter’s wedding, that’s available to rent for other weddings and special events; for information, call (509) 238-2739.

– V Twin is firing up its 3.5-barrel electric system today for the first time as it begins brewing beer in anticipation of an intended October opening in Millwood.

– Slate Creek has begun bottling its Norse Nectar juniper pale ale in 22-ounce bombers. Get it at the taproom as well as select bottle shops around the area.

– Twelve String is taking reservations in its taproom for this year’s golf tournament Sept. 18 at The Fairways in Cheney. Cost is $55 (cash only), which includes greens fee, a half-cart and lunch.

– Finally, a fond if a bit fuzzy farewell to The Viking, which closed its doors this week without explanation. While it’s been eclipsed on the Spokane craft scene by bigger, brighter taphouses, back in the day it was the place to go for what were then called microbrews, including a Thor’s Thunder imperial stout brewed by Montana’s long-lost Lang Creek based on a bartender’s homebrew recipe.
