An ape named Slacker

Rick Bonino

Brass Monkey is about to get a little brother.

No-Li today announced its newest six-pack release, Slacker, which will be available in 12-ounce bottles and on draft starting Oct. 6.

Brewed with sweet orange peel, it’s similar in concept to the summer seasonal Brass Monkey – which mimics the malt liquor and orange juice cocktail of that name – but with the alcohol dialed down from 8 percent to 6.1.

Wheat, acidulated and caramel malts contribute the body, with Comet and Cascade hops accentuating the citrus character.

“The real kicker in this one is the addition of Madagascar vanilla beans post-fermentation, which gives the beer a creamy, slightly sweet vanilla taste that melds seamlessly with the orange peel,” head brewer Carey Fristoe says in a press release.

Slacker joins the sessionable Poser pale and Crony brown in No-Li’s six-pack lineup.

And as we previously told you, Brass Monkey is being replaced on the seasonal roster starting Sept. 22 by Copper Donkey, a Moscow Mule takeoff made with fresh ginger and lemon-limey Equinox hops.
