Year of the badger?
Iron Goat has had a big hit with its weekly Wednesday “Year of the Goat” small-batch specialties, which usually sell out in a few hours.
Now Coeur d’Alene craft fans can get in on the fun with similar offerings each Wednesday at Daft Badger, starting tomorrow with a big imperial IPA.
Owner Darrell Dlouhy says the idea grew out of the small-batch beers they tapped during Craft Beer Week, including a saison and a pumpkin peach ale (a response to the infamous Budweiser commercial).
“We’re getting our feet underneath us, and we wanted to get get some stuff going,” Dlouhy says of Daft Badger, which opened in January. “It’s something people can look forward to on Wednesdays, break up the week a little bit.”
More summery offerings in the works include a hefeweizen in both straight and huckleberry versions, and a graff, or apple ale, both regular and cranapple.
Since each batch is only 10 gallons, Dlouhy says, “They’ll go pretty quick.”
And if you missed out on the pumpkin peach – which he says was “really amazing” – you’ll get another chance. Daft Badger is brewing a five-barrel batch of that one on Thursday, so look for it in a few weeks.
