The Idaho trail

Rick Bonino

So you’re feeling pretty proud of yourself for finishing the Inland Northwest Ale Trail? (Well, for now, anyway – we hear this year’s updated version will have as many as 40 breweries, up from the previous 27.)

Now it’s time to tackle the rest of Idaho, thanks to a new brewery map by the state’s Department of Agriculture in conjunction with Idaho Brewers United.

The Idaho Brewers Trail Map lists 51 operating breweries at print time, plus six more then in progress, from Kootenai River up in Bonners Ferry (which you’ve already hit on the Ale Trail, right?) to the southernmost Von Scheidt Brewing in Twin Falls.

Listings include addresses, phone numbers, websites and hours (which, of course, are always subject to change). There’s also information about Idaho hops (the state’s production ranks third nationally) and barley (number one).

Along with the online version, printed maps are available at such spots as brewery tasting rooms and visitor centers. So grab one and get cracking – summer unofficially starts tomorrow, and you’ve got your work cut out for you.
