SCBW: Day 3

Rick Bonino

Three days in, the first Spokane Craft Beer Week shows no signs of slowing down.

Among your options for today’s drinking adventures:

– All six of the official collaboration beers from a dozen area brewers are again pouring, this time at Pints Alehouse starting at 5 p.m.

While most will be sticking around for a while at their respective breweries, this is your last chance to try the super-limited Tower of Sour blend of five barrel-aged beers from Iron Goat and Paradise Creek. The pleasantly tart, rich, brownish beer was a highlight of Tuesday’s initial Collaboration Celebration at No-Li.

– At last report, there still were spots available for a pair of beer dinners tonight, featuring Perry Street brews at Durkin’s Liquor Bar and Orlison’s lagers at Chairs Public House.

– Hopped Up opens for the week with four specialties on tap: a chili beer made with alder wood-smoked Carolina reaper, rated as the world’s hottest pepper; a sweet-tart, kettle-soured blackberry stout; a double-hopped version of the Mad Hopper IPA; and rotating fruit-infused versions of the Quality Cream, in raspberry, cantaloupe and lemon.

– In addition to its daily flavor-infused Randall beer – today, American Wheat through strawberries – Black Label is tapping a naturally conditioned firkin of its new Scotch ale (6.7 percent alcohol by volume, 5 International Bitterness Units), with caramel malt and brown sugar sweetness, and some roastiness from black barley.

– Iron Goat is pulling out a heavy hitter for its weekly Year of the Goat small-batch offering, a hoppy barleywine weighing in at 13 percent ABV. It goes on when the brewery opens at 4 and be warned, it won’t last long.

– Twelve String has pint and growler fill specials on its five regular IPAs, and also is serving a soured, whiskey barrel-aged version of the Electric Slide imperial.

– Tap takeovers continue with Big Barn beers featured at The Lantern Tap House from 5 to 7 p.m., several selections from Iron Goat (Garbage Pale, Azacca IPA, Impaler imperial IPA, Farmhouse and Oola bourbon barrel-aged Cap’n Kidd Scotch ale) at newly opened Republic Pi pizza, and $1.25 pints of River City’s Girlfriend Golden, Huckleberry, Red and Riverkeeper IPA all day at the Checkerboard.

– Daft Badger in Coeur d’Alene is pouring its second specialty beer of the week, a saison.

– Total Wine tastings from 4 to 7 p.m. feature No-Li at the North Spokane store, and Elysian in the Valley.

And in ongoing offerings throughout the week:

– All-local beers are pouring at the Lantern and the Hop Shop (which has Local Brew Trivia from 6 to 8 p.m.).

– The South Hill Growler Guys is featuring beers from the greater Inland Northwest Ale Trail, with several also on tap at the North Side location.

– Manito Tap House is pulling out rare and cellared kegs all week long.

– Perry Street is offering flights of three artisan cheeses and three beer samples.
