Nine by 10 Barrel

Rick Bonino

The biggest tap takeover yet is coming to Pints Alehouse on Saturday.

Starting at 3 p.m., the North Spokane pub will be pouring nine offerings from Bend-based 10 Barrel, across the style and strength spectrum.

“It’s going to be the only chance to try some of these beers around here,” says owner Derek Quist. “They’re going to go fast.”

The lineup features three beers previously available only at the 10 Barrel pubs. One is Slapshot IPA (6.9 percent alcohol by volume, 80 International Bitterness Units), hopped with Simcoe, Bravo, Centennial and Comet, which was brewed specially for the recent North American Beer Awards in Idaho Falls.

The others are a Russian imperial stout (11.7 percent ABV) that was aged in Jim Beam barrels, then blended with a special version of the brewery’s raspberry sour, and the Rare Breed imperial red (11, 60) aged in bourbon barrels.

Other heavy hitters include the DUB double IPA (9.5), with Simcoe, Chinook and Magnum, and Night Ryed’r imperial rye porter (7.5, 38).

And given Saturday’s expected triple-digit temperatures, Quist says, “There’s going to be some great hot-weather options from their barrel room as well.”

Those include the German Sparkle Party (4, 16), a tart, effervescent Berliner Weiss, plus three fruit-infused variations: the Cucumber Crush (4, 4), Raspberry Crush (7.5, 4) and Cider Weiss (5.5, 4), fermented with Granny Smith and Pink Lady apples.

A brewery rep will be on hand with schwag, and all the beers will be available in both full (16 or 12 ounces, depending on the style) and half pours.

“We want to give people the opportunity to try them all and walk out upright,” Quist says.
