Your weekend outlook

Rick Bonino

This weekend’s warmer forecast appears conducive to some beer drinking, so here’s a closer look at some of your options:

– The IPA Showdown we previously mentioned at the Rocket Market on Friday is sold out, but you can head to Cheney for a Double Mountain tap takeover at Zentropa from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

There will be $5 tasting flights of four of the Hood River beers – Kolsch, Cluster single-hop IPA, Hop Lava IPA and India Red Ale – along with a brewery rep on hand.

Or if you happen to be around Perry Street today for the public market, look for a half-dozen Double Mountain offerings on tap at The Lantern starting at 4.

– New Belgium will be featured at Pints Alehouse on Saturday starting at 3 p.m., with a temporary covered patio to help you keep cool.

Look for the local debut of the Oscar Worthy barrel-aged coffee-infused sour along with 2014 and 2015 vintages of the La Folie oak-aged sour brown, Le Terroir dry-hopped sour, Cocoa Mole chocolate porter spiced with cinnamon and chilies, Abbey Ale dubbel and the Slow Ride session IPA Randalled through whole hops and grapefruit.

There also will be special to-go bottle prices on the 2014 La Folie and 2015 Transatlantic Kriek.

– A baker’s dozen of breweries are lined up for the Inland Northwest Beerfest on Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot of Nate’s New York Pizza in Post Falls.

Downdraft, Laughing Dog, River City, Slate Creek, Wallace, Bale Breaker, Big Sky, Deschutes, Elysian, Fremont, Iron Horse, Ninkasi and Sam Adams all will be pouring at least two beers each.

Admission is $10 in advance, $15 at the door, which includes a 5-ounce mug and two pours (additional tastes $1 each). Designated drivers can get their fill of soda and water for $5.

There’ll be live music by Strange Brew from 4 to 7 and food for sale. Net proceeds from the event, including a silent auction for brewery merchandise, will go to the Blue Star Mothers, an organization for mothers and grandmothers of military members and veterans.

About 400 people attended last year’s inaugural event (then called River City Brewfest), says Nate’s owner Glenn Gatherer. “I’m anticipating more this year, especially since the Blue Star moms are involved,” he says. “They’ve really been pushing it.”
