Two for the trails

Rick Bonino

A pair of popular, perennial festivals return to North Idaho on Saturday:

– The third annual Ales for the Trail, to benefit the North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation, is back at McEuen Park in Coeur d’Alene from 2 to 8 p.m.

Sixteen breweries will be on hand including Slate Creek, Trickster's, Daft Badger, Kootenai River, Bale Breaker, Deschutes, Selkirk Abbey, Paradise Creek, Laughing Dog, New Belgium, Mad Bomber, Elysian, River City, Downdraft, Widmer and Odell.

There also will be live music by Strange Brew and Idahobos, and food for sale. Ride your bike and be eligible for prize drawings.

Admission is $30, which includes six 5-ounce drink tickets (additional tickets $2 each). Minors are allowed in the company of a legal guardian.

– Silver Mountain will host its 20th annual Brewsfest at the Kellogg-area ski resort from 1 to 6 p.m.

Brickyard, Downdraft, Elysian, Hop Valley, Iron Horse, Mad Bomber, Ninkasi, Odell, Orlison, River City and Sockeye are bringing two beers each, and there will be four each from No-Li, North Idaho Mountain, Slate Creek and Wallace (including the Huckleberry Shandy). North Idaho Cider also will be pouring a pair of its offerings.

Mountaintop music will be provided by The Doghouse Boyz at 1 p.m., Civilized Animal at 2 and Clumsy Lovers at 4. The Doghouse Boys also will play a post-funk set starting at 6 down at Noah’s Bar in the Gondola Village.

Tickets are $29.95 in advance, $34.95 at the gate, which gets you your first six samples (extras are $1 each). Add a mountain biking pass for an extra $15.
