Where’s Waldos’? Right here
It’s no secret there’s a fair amount of overlap between craft beer culture and pot culture (particularly in Colorado and Washington these days).
That’s something Lagunitas is celebrating today, which is 4/20 – the longstanding stoner code for toking up – with its annual Waldos’ Special Ale (11.1 percent alcohol by volume, 100 International Bitterness Units).
While the recipe changes from year to year, Lagunitas (which once was a bit too weed-friendly for its own good) bills it as “the dankest, hoppiest brew we make … Herbaceous. Botanical. Resinous.”
Look for it on tap today throughout the Growler Guys chain, including the Spokane stores on the South Hill and Newport Highway.
It’s also pouring at Manito Tap House, and at Post Street Ale House – along with Lagunitas’ regular IPA, Sucks imperial IPA, Undercover Shutdown strong ale and ScareCity #3 imperial coffee stout – as part of a tap takeover, with brewery reps on hand from 4 to 8 p.m.
As for the name, despite what you might have heard about police radio codes or Hitler’s birthday, the Waldos were the ones who came up with the whole 4/20 deal – which you can read more about here, or watch a rather colorful video interview, courtesy of Lagunitas, here.
